Year 1 Miss Bruton
In Mathematics, the children will be using the 2014 curriculum. This will focus on counting and simple calculations. The children will explore shape and handling data as well as mental maths and problem solving tasks.
In English this year we will continue to follow the 2014 curriculum. Children will explore fiction and non-fiction texts using a range of speaking and listening activities e.g. role play. They will have the opportunity to explore the different features of these text types before creating their own.
The children will read in a group every day and I aim to hear all children read throughout the week.
The children will take part in a reading activity every day and we will listen to all the children read throughout the week through daily guided reading.
Please try to hear your child read every day and make a short comment in their reading record to indicate their response to the book. Children should put their reading books and reading records in the reading box each morning, Any books that need to be changed will be done that day and books returned to the children before home time.
Children will be continuing to bring home their spelling journals. Please try to encourage your child to practise their spellings at home. They have been taught a number of different creative strategies and there are further tips inside their spelling journal. Just like their reading record, they will need to bring their spelling journal into school every day.
Our library change day is Friday.
Children have P.E. on Monday and Tuesday of every week. They are expected to have their P.E. kit with them for every lesson. Tuesday PE is Rising Stars (outdoor team games) and Monday PE is gymnastics, dance and games so children will need a black or blue tracksuit and trainers when the weather is cold. Unfortunately plimsolls will not be suitable for outdoor PE
Children will receive homework in a folder on a Friday. This should be completed and returned by the following Wednesday. There will be a choice of activities for you to complete with your child. All the activities will be based around what we are teaching during the term. Children are expected to complete one task each week, which we will mark and send back home. Please sign the homework grid and do let us know how your child got on with the homework and whether there was something they particularly enjoyed doing.
Mathletics is set every Tuesday.
